H4479 An Act to protect youth from the health risks of tobacco and nicotine addiction

On Wednesday, May 9, 2018 I was proud to vote in favor of H4479 An Act to protect youth from the health risks of tobacco and nicotine addiction. As of January 1, 2019, no one under the age 19, 20, or 21 will be able to purchase tobacco or vapor products in Massachusetts.

I am proud to have been a cosponsor of this important bill and commend Chair Kate Hogan, Chair Paul McMurtry and Speaker Robert DeLeo for working hard on this bill with many Dr’s and advocates who want to protect our youth whose brains and bodies are continuing to develop from accessing these addictive, cancer-causing related products.

This hits home for me and many others as 90 percent of adult smokers started before they left their teenage years. Both my mother and father-in-law who died from smoking related disease at 66 and this May have prevented them from starting. It’s a step in the right direction. #smokingkills
