Moving Along: An Update from South Coast Rail

Dear Neighbors and Friends of South Coast Rail,

We hope you had a great summer. It’s certainly been a busy one for everyone on the South Coast Rail project team! In June, MBTA Design and Construction assumed leadership of the project from MassDOT’s Office of Transportation Planning. Kim Dobosz of the MBTA now leads the Program Management/Construction Management phase and will be supported by Jean Fox, MassDOT’s Project Manager, who provides continuity, project history and regional understanding.

The MBTA awarded a 10-year construction and program management contract for the design and permitting of South Coast Rail. At this time, year one is fully funded. The project team is moving full steam ahead!

As the project advances, we will periodically share fact sheets to keep you up to date. Read the latest fact sheet, available in English, Spanish and Portuguese to:

  • Find out more about the MBTA’s role and the current project status
  • Learn about the progress we are making on the grade crossing upgrades, bridge replacements and field work
  • Get to know Kim Dobosz, the MBTA Project Manager
  • Take a look back in time at the history of commuter rail service to the South Coast region

The fact sheet was distributed at an event on September 17 hosted by the Rail to Boston Coalition. The Coalition is a group of major businesses and organizations in Massachusetts leading a privately funded, collective advocacy effort to complete the South Coast Rail project. Approximately 75 people – including state and local elected officials, residents, business owners and Rail to Boston members – came together at South Station to support the project.
